Nobody got disappointed, that‘s for sure! The men‘slopestyle finals at the Winter X Games Europe in Tignes were nothing else than a firework burned down by the riders. In a close and exciting comp it was finally Bobby Brown ending Tom Wallisch‘s dream season by taking the gold medal. Tom himself still seemed to be very happy with silver in front of Andreas Hatveit who got awarded with the bronze medal.
If you have already been here in Tignes for the Winter X Games Europe you might have noticed the security concerning the permission to enter certain spots is very very strict and not always combined with hospitality. The more funny it was to see a randomly seeming person entering the course just as Andreas Hatveit kicked off the final and was on the way to the third kicker. Fail, hahaha!!! Well, Andreas didn‘t mind too much, he got another run…..
Afterwards the comp went down without any other interruptions and the thousands of spectators who came up to Tignes sitting in the snow and wearing T-Shirts and sunglasses definitely didn‘t regret their coming. Especially Bobby Brown blew our all mind by taking the gold medal with an insane run: switch 270 on pretzl 270 out, switch on 450 out, key phat 270 out, right dub 10, left dub 12 tail, switch double cork 12, misty 450 off the downrail over the bottom rail, boom that‘s it, congratulation! In fact he stomped three different and absolutely perfect runs he deserved it more than anyone else.
Up next we have Tom Wallisch who most of us have expected to win, but it just wasn’t enough today. Still his run was a blast: switch on switch up 630 out, pretzl 270 out, switch 270 on 270 out, left dub 12, switch right dub 10, switch left dub 10, switch 270 on pretzl 450 out. In his second run he also had a mistake on the rail section so he kind of stopped his competition run and prefered to entertain the crowd with a backflip and a double backflip on bottom jumps. Just one of the reasons why we all like this guy so much!
On third position there is a very happy Andreas Hatveit. With the bronze medal he has a great present for his child which is supposed to be born next month. All the best for that by the way! His run was as usual very technical including the following tricks: (fs 360 switch up, 450 out, 270 on, right dub 12, switch wobble 12, left dub 10, 50 50 switch up 270 out)
We are also stoked to tell you about James „Woodsy“ Woods fourth place. He wasn‘t really content with his 7th place at the Austrian Freeski Open last week, but this one will definitely make him happy! For Russ Henshaw it went quite unfortunate one more time. In his first two runs he always had one little mistake keeping him away from a better result, the rest of his run was surely worth a medal! In the third run he already crashed in the rail section on top and finshed the run quite bummer! Keep your head up mate, you are still on of the best out there!
Now it’s time to breath through for a while. But you better be ready at 8:30pm again when the men‘s superpipe elimination is going to be held. We don‘t need to tell you it will be a banger comp as none of the riders can proceed tactically. With the level these days they all have to go all in to get their spot for the final. So be clever and check it out again with us.
See you later!
