Crazy freestyle action at the Snowpark Lenzerheide! The Freestyle Madness saw more than 50 freeskiers gathering for the QParks Tour showdown in Switzerland. The riders rocked the contest line and its 14m booter with style and flow. Entertainment was provided by the shape crew and their “special raclette” as well as by the Swiss Hip Hop crew DIMO.
EASY CHEESY – it is well known that Switzerland does not only produce good cheese. Once again, they proved the fact that they also produce some very exquisite freeski talents. The Men & Ladies categories were also very well equipped with national and international top riders. The Swiss Hip Hop crew DIMO took care of the proper support and brought the groove to the chill area with their laid-back beats.
The biggest challenge for the contestants was a steep, 14m booter, which really stretched the riders to their limits. Head judge Andi Lehman:“Such a steep kicker is not easy to take for the riders, you need a lot of body tension and power to remain steadily in the air and to avoid going into spin. At large, the riders pulled off a good performance and a great show”.
Andri Ambühel used his home-field advantage and won the Freeski Men category of the contest in his home-park. Not only did he thus cream off CHF 600,- but also an invitation to the Austrian Freeski Open, including lift tickets and accommodation. Second-placed Flo Geyer from Germany and third-placed Fabian Braitsch from Austria also showcased pure freestyle madness and massive airtime in their runs! But at the end it was Christian Jenny from Vorarlberg who pulled off the best trick of the day – a Double Corked 1080 Mute.
However, not only the men performed at a very high level, the 22 freeski rookies also managed to impress both judges and the audience with their tricks. The judges commented: “Compared to other Tourstops, there has been a very strong development. Even the youngest contestants pulled out some 720s over the big jumps; such a level is really tough to beat.” At the end of the day, Christian Hölzl managed to take victory among the Freeski Rookies with a Double Flatspin 900 ahead of Kim Gubse and Lukas Müllauer.
Among the Freeski Ladies, the favored Lisa Zimmerman managed to take home victory despite of a slam. Thus, the young freeskier from Rosenheim has already won four QParks Tourstops. And she, too, can rejoice over an invitation to the Austrian Freeski Open. Philo Bair and Nici Scheichl took the remaining spots on the only podium with no Swiss involved.
