Freeride Dreams of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

Feel Free – that’s the motto in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis and what better way to feel free than to freeride. Once you’ve reached the summit, you look down onto a world of fresh powder that only waits to be discovered. These feelings are usually not easily put into words. However, a picture is worth a thousand words anyway, so we filmed a bunch of freeskiers riding the Feel Free routes – and the result is more than convincing!

Since the beginning of the season 2012/13, there have been ten freeride routes in the ski resort Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis which comprise several medium to advanced slopes. On site, the freeriders are welcome to use the so called Freeride Bases – information boards where you can plan your next route or check youravalanche transceiver.

These Freeride Bases were also the meeting point for our media crew and the freeskiers, who met at the beginning of February in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis to experience the infinite freedom of freeriding and to test the Feel Free Routes. After a short briefing and the obligatory transceiver check, the freeskiers Fabian Braitsch, Bine Žalohar and Andraž Šparovec headed for the “Adlerroute” and the “Kamikaze Route”. In a little interview, Fabian Braitsch told us if the guys were going for a kamikaze session as well and how the shooting days went down for them:

Hey Fabian, you were at the Freeride Shooting in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis at the beginning of February. How did you like it?
It was the first time that I came to Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis to do some freeriding. Previously I’ve only been to the parks and I was quite amazed about how well you can freeride in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. There are many different possibilities, from beautiful open slopes to treeruns – there’s something of everything.

How were the shooting days? What was the highlight of the shoot?
On the first couple of days, the weather wasn’t on our side, which also had some consequences on our morale. Fortunately, the weather was great on the last day and we were able to reel in one or the other good shot. On the last shooting day, we headed for the mountain even before sunrise and it definitely paid off. The routes were beautiful and we were lucky to ride impeccable lines for quite some time. My highlight was definitely the shoot in the early morning.

What are your plans for the remaining season?
On the one hand, I want to ride a few more contests, on the other hand, I also want to shoot and film some more. Since my comeback from my knee injury, I’ve spent most of my time in the powder, which I do find more enjoyable at the moment. The shooting in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis was certainly not my last freeride shooting.
Thanks to Fabian for this little talk and tons of fun to you whilst watching the freeski clip and the photo gallery!
